Privacy Policy

Effective 20 October 2026

The short version: Hoverpad doesn't collect, sell or share any of your data. Your notes stay on your Mac, and in your own private iCloud if you turn on sync. The app has no accounts, no analytics and no servers that see your notes.

This policy explains how the Hoverpad app for Mac and the hoverpad.app website handle information. Hoverpad is made by Rudi Louw, trading as Hoverpad, in South Africa (“we”, “us”).

The Hoverpad app

Your notes

Notes, checklists, images, titles, colours and settings are saved on your Mac, inside Hoverpad's own app container. We never receive them.

iCloud sync (optional)

If you turn on Sync with iCloud, your notes are stored in your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so they appear on your other Macs. Apple stores and protects that data under your Apple Account and Apple's Privacy Policy. We cannot see or access your private iCloud data. You can turn sync off at any time from Hoverpad's menu bar.

Screen Recording permission

Hoverpad asks for Screen Recording permission only so you can pin an area of your screen. It captures just the area you select, keeps the image on your Mac, and never uploads or transmits it.

Touch ID

When you lock a note, macOS checks your fingerprint or password. Hoverpad only learns whether it succeeded. Your fingerprint data never leaves Apple's Secure Enclave.

Purchases

Hoverpad Pro is bought through the Mac App Store. Apple handles payment, and we receive no payment or personal details. Hoverpad checks your purchase with the App Store on your Mac.

What we don't do

Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics, but only if you choose to share them with developers in your Mac's settings.

The hoverpad.app website

The Hoverpad app itself has no analytics. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets cookies and records anonymised usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location and browser type. It doesn't record anything you type, and none of it comes from the app or your notes. You can block it with your browser's tracking protection or a content blocker, and the site works the same either way. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (like IP address and browser type) for security and reliability. Fonts and images are served from hoverpad.app itself.

Emails to us

If you email support@hoverpad.app or hello@hoverpad.app, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We delete support emails when they're no longer needed.

Children

Hoverpad doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we don't hold personal data about Hoverpad users, there's usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you've emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, just ask. You may have rights under laws such as POPIA (South Africa) and the GDPR (EU and UK).

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date above.
